Points to remember for ‘Yoga & Pranayama’ practitioners

1. Mental preparedness is the first thing needed to practice yoga and pranayama. Once we are prepared, we can practice yoga regularly to stay healthy.

2. Discipline and regularity are the main pillars to lead a healthy yogic lifestyle. Attending to nature’s call should be prioritized before starting any sort of yogic practice. However, in case, it doesn’t happen on time, we regularly should not delay or stop practicing.

3. We should avoid practicing yoga after consuming food. There should be a gap of 3 to 4 hours after a heavy meal and a gap of 2 hours after a light meal before we start our practice. Additionally, there should be a gap of half an hour to one hour after taking tea, milk, and light snacks.

4. Early Morning and early evening are the most suitable time to perform yoga. Unfortunately, due to the work schedule, many people are unable to take advantage of that time period. One way out of this is to manage some time to perform yoga while keeping the point-3 mentioned above.

5. Performing yoga on the naked floor should be avoided. Carpets, blankets, mats, etc. should be laid down on the floor to perform yogic practices.

6. It is is nearly impossible to gain mastery over any kind of Asana, Pranayama, or Dhyana in a single day. Therefore, it is better to avoid any kind of haste. It is always advisable to go slow and steady to master these kinds of yogic kriyas.

7. Choose a place that is free from any kind of pollutants (like dust, gas, etc.) while performing yogic practices. An open and airy space with a free flow of air is a suitable place for such kinds of practices.

8. While performing yogic practices we should keep ourselves happy and avoid any kind of mental stress.

9. While performing yogic practices we should wear comfortable and loose clothing to achieve utmost health benefits.

10. Stretching exercises should be performed to remove the rigidness of our body before performing any kind of yogic practice.

11. Strenuous yogasanas, especially those that exert pressure on the stomach should be avoided by pregnant women and females during menstruation. During such cases, it is advisable to perform one or two Pranayams and simpler yogasanas like Tarasana , Jastikasana, and Bhadrasana.

12. Regular yogic practices can be started from an early age of five. All responsible parents, therefore, should motivate their children to practice yoga and pranayama from an early age.

13. Yoga practitioners should prefer to eat sattvic foods like milk, fresh local fruits, vegetables, soaked chickpeas, and mung beans.

14. Food that incites our senses and taste buds ought to be avoided as much as possible.

15. We should consider yogic practices as a part of our lives. Doing so helps the practitioners to keep their physical, mental, and intellectual health in good condition which consequently goes on to develop their overall personalities.

16. Proper yogic practices also helps a person stay away from illnesses. In case a person falls ill, such practices also help the person to recover faster.

17. If a person suffering from a certain illness wants to practice yoga and pranayama, he/she should consult the teacher and a doctor beforehand.

18. People suffering from sciatica and those having joint pains especially on the back and waist, should perform asanas while sitting on a chair.
